Emotions. They can be a funny thing! At times they can make you feel frazzled. Other times, when something good happens, you feel happy and excited. But do you let your emotions rule you? Do you make your decisions based on what you’re feeling? How do you keep your emotions in check so they don’t make you plunge down into a deep hole of depression?
I know myself what emotions can do. I have been to the pit of depression myself, but I have good news for you! God is there and He will never leave you. In the midst of the storm He is there, ready to hold you and wipe away your tears.
I don’t know what you’re going through. It may be anything from just listening to a sad song and that reminds you of something, and makes you feel down and depressed. Maybe you are going through something horrible, like your parents’ divorce, or the loss of someone you held close to your heart.
There is a song that I posted a few weeks ago, and the chorus says “I know that You are for me, I know that You are for me. I know that You will NEVER forsake me in my weaknesses. I know that You have come down, Even if to write upon my heart, to remind me of who You are.”
This is so true. You may be hurting but God is always there no matter what. I myself have learned in the last few weeks that if you want to keep your emotions in check, stay close to God. Cling to His Word. Let Him help put your feelings and emotions in the right category.
There’s a saying that I love that I say to myself every so often. It goes something like this: “Rule over your emotions, but don’t let your emotions rule over you.”
Let this be your strength: 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
