Witchcraft in the Church

Have you ever had the feeling of “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!”? Well, that’s my feeling right about now.

I keep seeing all these posts about “Harry Potter” this, and “Pokemon” that, and I CAN”T STAND IT ANYMORE? Why? Because all these posts are coming from Christian people.
Some may say “Well, there’s nothing wrong with Harry Potter!” Well, I’ll Start saying this: Harry Potter is about witchcraft. I don’t care whether he’s practicing it for “good” or not. Witchcraft is witchcraft, plain and simple. It’s not going to lead anyone into anything good.

“There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you.” Deuteronomy 18:10-12 (NKJV)

Now, despite the fact that this was written in the Old Testament, (some people seem to think that the old testament hasn’t any meaning cause it was before Christ–TOTALLY NOT TRUE, by-the-way!) It still applies to us now! We need to steer clear of witchcraft. Whether you are practicing it, or “just watching it” it still opens up gateways to demons to enter you, your home…every part of your life!

Maybe you’re sitting there thinking to yourself “But, I have Christ’s spirit to keep me safe of these things,” And while that is true-we as Christians DO have the Holy Spirit-we also have choice-and that means we get to chose to open ourselves up to demonic entities. The way I see it, if we are told to STAY AWAY from it, we need to STAY AWAY! There’s a reason for it. Old Testament or New, it all matters, and it’s in there for a reason!

You’re so right – and I’m right with you in having “enough”… May I go one step further than Harry Potter, etc.? When we’re told to stay away from this stuff I believe it includes the areas of astrology, numerology, etc.— the evil one has great delight when he can grab us by our sense of curiousity. I re-read CS Lewis’ Screwtape Letters every year or so – I’d recommend it to anyone who seeks to look inside themselves with a wry, sheepish accountability. Lewis is brilliant at pointing out our weaknesses….

I absolutely agree! Stay tuned as I m planning on updating and revision this article to talk about some other topics that God has been placing on my heart!
I’ve been wanting to read there Screwtape Letters for some time, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. Maybe I’ll read it as my next personal spiritual retreat study.

Yes, you are right, God does not want us to have anything to do with it and it leads into nothing good. May we get to this: Psalm 119:14 (NIV) I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.! Blessings, Rachel
