To Know The Truth (And Be Set Free)

To Know The Truth

We’ve all heard about “those” churches…

You know. the kind that doesn’t really preach/teach what the Bible says. The ones who proclaim a watered-down version of the Bible so as to not offend anyone…

Yeah, that kind of church.

I’ve visited churches where this is what has occured. I’ll be honest with you, while I was shocked that the pastor was out-right lying about what the Bible said, what shocked me even more was how many people were saying “Amen” to these lies. It was obvious that they hadn’t a clue that that’s not what the Bible says.

“Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” ” John 8:31-32

“The Truth will set you free…”

Before accepting Christ, every person was a slave to sin. A slave to their flesh and the evils of this world. There was no was to escape from it. But, when you asked Christ into your heart, you were set free because you found the truth!

But-yes, there’s a but…To continue to grow and to be set free, we must know what God says is sin…

“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Psalm 119:11

Sin is destructive. It slowly decays our spirit.

There is no freedom from sin, aside from accepting Christ and letting him transform you from a life of sin to a life of Godliness.

All scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong in our lives and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Again, right and wrong; sin or Godliness?

“Like Newborn babies, you must crave spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation.” 1 Timothy 2:2

When a baby is born, it first must be fed milk, because it isn’t ready for more complex foods.

In the same way, we must first be fed the more basic spiritual food so that we can grow into being able to take in and digest (understand) the more complex spiritual foods.

Reading the Bible, while sometimes can be a little confusing, is the best, most basic, form of spiritual food.

To be able to grow into a “full experience of salvation” we need to know take in the truth of who and what God is; and there is no better way to know that than by reading the Bible!

In the end, what it all comes down to is this:

Personal Bible Study is necessary so that God’s people know what his word says.

Taking what a pastor says, and not searching for the truth is dangerous, because that’s when you’ll unknowingly be led into a life of false-Christianity, and therein, led right back into a life of sin.

The NIV version of 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (written above) uses a term so rich with action, it says “All scripture is God-Breathed…”

This gives the image of God’s literal breath being upon his word-and it is!

It also goes right back to when he first created man and he breathed his breath into man’s nostrils and gave him life;

“Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.” Genesis 2:7

Right from the very first day of man’s existence, we were created with God’s breath. And to continue to live, we still need that life-giving breath. Which we have in the form of his word; The Bible.

man's existence

If you want that life-giving breath; if you truly want to become like Christ, don’t just take your pastor’s word for it, read, search and dig into God’s word for yourself, and you will know right from wrong, and you will know the Truth, and it will set you Free!
