Billy Graham: A Life and Legacy of Love

Honoring Billy Graham

“Someday you will read or hear that Billy Graham is dead. Don’t you believe a word of it. I shall be more alive than I am now. I will just have changed my address. I will have gone into the presence of God.”

-Billy Graham

February 21, 2018 is a day that millions of people will remember for a long time to come.

It is the day that renowned Pastor and Author, Billy Graham, passed away at the age of 99 years old.

And, millions-myself one of them-wept at hearing such news.

But last night, as I lied in bed, I thought to myself “Is this really what he would have wanted; for people to weep at his home-going?”

And I don’t think he would. I think he would wish for us to rejoice for him that he made it home to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior, whom he served with humility and boldness.

Death seems like such a tragic thing, and for those who aren’t saved, it is. After all, death without redemption leads to an eternity of misery in Hell. But, for those who have prayed and been redeemed by the blood of Jesus, we know that when we pass from this world we are going to live with our savior!

There’s an old Jim Reeves song that so well illustrates this;

“This world is not my home I’m just a passing through
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue
The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore!
Oh lord you know I have no friend like you
If heaven’s not my home then lord what will I do
The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore”

All throughout his life, Billy Graham prought about God’s saving grace; that Jesus came to this earth, with the purpose of dying so that we could be saved from condemnation to hell because of our sin. And I think that, in his death, he would’ve wanted us to remember most this wonderful message he so dearly loved to tell people!

When I was about 8 years old, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association came out with something called Dare To Be A Daniel. It was a program that taught and equipped teens to share the Gospel Message with their friends. And, despite its not-yet-released-in-Canada status, I begged my dad to sign me up. And, despite my obviously not being a teen, and living in Canada, they still sent the stuff to me, and that is where my heart for ministry truly began to flourish and grow. Basically, in a sense, it’s Bible School for youth. (In case you-or your children are interested in finding out more about DTBAT, Here’s the Link)

Part of the training for DTBAD was to memorize certain Bible verses. And I would like to share one of the verses that comes to mind quite quickly when ministering to people:

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9

And so, I want to take this moment to use the training provided to me from Dr. Graham’s ministry, and offer you the chance to give your heart to Jesus. Right here, right now.

It’s so, so easy!

All you have to do is tell God that you know you are a sinner, ask for his forgiveness of your sin, and invite him into your heart to lead you and guide you for the rest of your life.

In case you still aren’t sure what to say, here’s a prayer you can repeat; the church tends to call it ‘The Sinner’s Prayer’:

“Dear Jesus,

I know that I’m a sinner. And I know that you are the only one who can forgive me, so I ask you for that forgiveness. Please come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior and guide me in your ways the rest of my life. Thank you for your forgiveness!

sINNER'S prayer

That’s all there is to it!

If you just said that prayer, I would really, really love for you to contact me-either through the form on the Contact Us page, or e-mail me at: and let me know that you gave your heart to Jesus! I would love to send you a Bible and put you on my prayer list!
